"The Lord gives grace to all His children who trust in Him as their Saviour and Lord"
My name is Ruth McClure, I have one older brother and we were born into a wonderful Christian home and brought up in Templemore Hall.
As a young girl at the age of seven, I gave my heart to the Lord. After listening to my parents praying at my bedside every night, I would come to understand why God had sent His only son to die on the cross, to save a sinner like me. As life went on I wasn't all I could have been as a Christian, unfortunately I let the Lord down on many occasions. After listening to the leaders of a church camp at the age of 16, on how I should have been living as a Christian, I decided to re-dedicate my life to the Lord.
After leaving school I started work in the Ulster Hospital as a cardiac technician, a job I just loved! In 1978, I married George McClure who I met through the combined Easter meetings. In 1981 something bad happened, my mum went into hospital for a routine gallbladder operation. It would have to be said, I had the greatest mum in the world, who did everything for me but breathe. The one thing I never wanted was anything to happen to her. I have to say now looking back, the Lord knew what was best, how I needed to depend on Him and not my mum. After mum was given the anesthetic things went wrong, she was left with brain damage and lay unconscious for 10 and a half years.
In 1991 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have surgery as well as radiotherapy and chemo. Half way through my chemo mum died and the Lord just slipped her away. George and I had just sold our house, and had to move out two weeks after being discharged from the hospital. We stayed with my dad for six months until we got a new house.
I continued to work in the hospital, as I felt there was always someone worse off than me and I could perhaps help them in some way. In 1997 the cancer was back which meant more surgery, but thankfully no treatment.
During 2000 after taking a great holiday in Vancouver I was feeling very tired and thought I felt another lump. I mentioned it to my pal in work, who brought one of the surgeons to see me, only to be told it was back and this time it was through my chest wall and onto my lung. Yet more surgery with stronger chemo and radiotherapy. This time I lost all my hair, which had been so long I could have sat on it.
It is now 5 years on, the Lord has helped me through and he alone knows what lies ahead for me. I would just like to finish, by saying that, the Lord gives grace to all His children who trust in Him as their Saviour and Lord. He will be with us all the way home. So whether the way be rough or smooth we can put our confidence in Him.
